Strawberry Banana Smoothie Modern Honey

This easy, creamy, refreshing 4-ingredient Strawberry Banana Smoothie is made with strawberries, banana, milk, and a touch of honey and is such a healthy breakfast to start your day.

This is the time of year when we are back on the healthy eating kick and smoothies are in abundance in our home. Smoothies are my favorite thing to whip up for my kids and husband in the morning because I can pack in so much nutrition into one little drink.

This Strawberry Banana Smoothie is our go-to smoothie in our home because it is so simple to make and everyone loves it. It is made with very few ingredients — strawberries, ripe banana, your favorite type of milk, honey, and even a touch of almond butter, if you want the extra creaminess.

Ingredients:

This is such an easy and simple strawberry banana smoothie recipe made with only 4 ingredients.

  • Strawberries: I suggest using frozen strawberries but you can use either fresh or frozen strawberries. When you use frozen strawberries, you don’t need to use as much ice.
  • Banana: For a sweeter strawberry banana smoothie, use riper bananas. I like to use firm but slightly ripe bananas. If you can plan ahead of time, freeze the bananas which makes a creamier smoothie texture.
  • Milk: Use your favorite type of milk. You can use regular milk, almond, coconut, or oat milk. I like to use Fairlife milk because it has 13 grams of protein per serving.
  • Honey: To add a touch of sweetness, add honey to the smoothie mixture. For extra sweetness, pour the smoothie in a glass and then drizzle honey on the top.
  • Optional: Greek Yogurt, Almond Butter, Spinach, Protein Powder

Why should I use frozen strawberries in smoothies:

Using frozen strawberries is a game-changer for your smoothie experience. When making this strawberry smoothie, I prefer to use frozen strawberries. This creates a super cold smoothie without the use of ice. Since ice melts and can make the smoothie watery, I prefer to use frozen strawberries. Here’s why:

  • Preserves Freshness: Frozen strawberries are picked and frozen at their peak ripeness, preserving their flavor and nutritional value. This ensures a consistent sweet strawberry taste.
  • Creamier Texture: The frozen strawberries add a thick and frosty texture to the smoothie without the need for ice, creating a creamy consistency.
  • Convenience: Frozen strawberries are available year-round, making it convenient to enjoy this smoothie regardless of the season. Plus, there’s no need to worry about the berries spoiling before you use them. I buy a large bag of frozen strawberries at Costco which is super cost effective.

FAQ’s about Strawberry Smoothies:

Is a strawberry banana smoothie good for you?

Rich in Vitamins and Antioxidants: Strawberries and bananas are both powerhouse fruits, loaded with vitamin C, potassium, and antioxidants. These nutrients contribute to a healthy immune system and overall well-being.

Smoothies give you a natural energy boost: The natural sugars in strawberries and bananas provide a quick and sustainable energy boost, making this smoothie an excellent choice for a morning pick-me-up or a pre-workout snack.

May help with digestive health: Bananas contain dietary fiber, which aids in digestion and promotes a healthy gut.

Do you put ice in a smoothie?

If you’re using frozen strawberries or bananas in your smoothie, they can serve as an excellent substitute for ice. These fruits not only contribute to the texture but also maintain the fruit flavors without watering it down.

If you desire a colder smoothie, add some ice after adding all of the other ingredients.

How can I add protein to this Strawberry Smoothie Recipe:

There are a few ways to add protein to smoothie recipes. Here are some ideas:

Add Greek yogurt for its high protein content and creamy texture. Add a scoop of Vanilla Protein Powder for its boost of protein. For a nuttier flavor, add 1 Tablespoon of almond butter. For extra protein in the milk, use Fairlife milk.

Tips for making Homemade Strawberry Banana Smoothies:

  • Use Perfectly Ripe Ingredients: Use ripe bananas for natural sweetness and a smoother texture. Frozen strawberries should be plump and bright red for optimal flavor.
  • Balancing Sweetness: Adjust the amount of honey based on your preference and the sweetness of your fruits. Taste the smoothie as you blend and add honey gradually until it reaches your desired level of sweetness.
  • Consistent Blending: To ensure a smooth and lump-free consistency, start by blending the milk and frozen strawberries before adding the banana and honey. This helps prevent any chunks from forming.
  • How to make smoothies healthier?

Add Green Vegetables. Greens are among the healthiest foods on the planet, rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Add a handful of spinach or kale to your smoothie for an instant boost of nutrients. My favorite is to sneak into smoothies is baby spinach! Just 2 cups of baby spinach, has only 20 calories, 0 grams of fat.

Add a touch of healthy fats to your smoothie by including omega-3 rich ingredients. Chia seeds, flaxseeds, creamy avocado, almond butter and walnuts are excellent choices.

Add protein-rich ingredients such as Greek yogurt, nut butter, or a scoop of high-quality protein powder.

One of my favorite kitchen appliances has to be my Vitamix. I use it all of the time because it is incredibly powerful and creates the creamiest smoothies.
